Best Nutritional Supplements For a 56 year old Woman
Dear Brett, I've read about the products you recommend on nutritional-supplement-truths and I'm quite convinced about their qualities. Below are my inquiries;
I'm a woman of about 56yrs of age. I've no serious ailment, except for knee joint pain, especially when I descend the steps. My blood pressure, sugar levels and cholesterol levels are normal. My height is 5'5" and my weight is about 80kg.
Could you suggest the best supplements for me to consume?
I live in Kota Bharu, Malaysia. How do I make the order for the suggested supplements.
I hope to hear from you soon. Thank you.
Answer From Brett:
Hello Fatima, thanks for contacting me with your question.
Having read your health description I would suggest you use the same two nutritional supplements as I do - one for your general health and one for your knee joint pain.
Firstly, in regard to your knee I recommend you start using the same Omega 3 / Joint formula supplement which I have used for the past 4 years now.
I am 45 years old, high performance tennis coach. I have been running around a tennis court almost every day for the past 25 years. My joints are very important to the continuation of my work (for many years to come).
To take care of my joints I use a premium grade supplement from the Xtend-life company based in New Zealand which is called GLM - Omega 3 Plus.
The critical features of this supplement formula are that it contains a very high DHA content and provides strong joint protection from a special nutrient - New Zealand GLM - Green Lipped Mussels (Perna Canaliculus).
The most important part of any Omega 3 fish oil is the DHA content! See this page for more information about this critical point: benefits of fish oil supplements
Most Omega fish oil supplements in the market are too weak because they have much more EPA and far less DHA (DHA is far more expensive for manufacturers to purchase - DHA is responsible for most of the awesome health benefits associated with omega 3 intake.)
The Xtend-life GLM-Omega 3 Plus supplement has a very high DHA content and is the best joint supplement I have reviewed - which is why I use it myself (as does my 80 year old mum who is still playing golf, lawn bowls and weight training at the gym each week).
The New Zealand GLM are somewhat famous because they are believed to contain a prostaglandin inhibitor that exerts anti-inflammatory effects beneficial to joint health. They are found only off the coast of New Zealand and are recognized as one of the best and most effective natural anti-inflammatory agents available. Many manufacturers do not use them because of their cost.
As a tennis coach I have to take prehabilitative action to protect my joints, especially my knees, as most tennis coaches eventually develop knee problems from cyclic overuse.
If you try the GLM OMEGA 3 Plus supplement and find after, say 3 months, that the pain in your knee has not decreased substantially, then I would recommend you stop using it and upgrade to a more focused arthritis supplement (which has a more powerful formula for tackling joint pain and inflammation.)
The pain you are feeling now may in fact already be the start of some arthritis in that joint and if this is the case then the GLM - Omega 3 Plus may not help. It all depends on the severity and extent of your knee condition right now.
My father had stiffness and discomfort in his hands and on my recommendation he started with the Xtend-life 'Arthrit-Eze' product - there's a link to it further down the page). Dad obtained excellent results, with his discomfort virtually disappearing and he was able to stop using this supplement after approx 3 months use. Thereafter, he used it every 3 months for a couple of months as a preventative measure.
So Fatimah, here are some links that will take you to the Xtend-Life product pages of the GLM-Omega 3 Plus and Arthrit-Eze products.
Once there you can read up and research these nutritional supplements and if you have any
further questions just use the links on that website to contact the company and they will have their qualified staff reply to your questions.
PRODUCT UPDATE (January, 2015)
Xtend-Life have discontinued their GLM Omega 3 Plus supplement in order to release a new, superior product offering more flexibility to customers and most importantly, increased efficacy.
Their new Green Lipped Mussel Powder
is a natural 'whole food' supplement with more health benefits than other mussel-derived products on the market (oils and powders) - including their previous GLM product. The Xtend-Life Green Lipped Mussel Powder is unique because of the innovative manufacturing method which ensures that the fresh 'live' mussels are converted to powder in just 30 minutes - retaining a maximum quantity of key organic compounds.
I recommend you read the comprehensive info guide (opens as a PDF file) they've put together to understand how this new GLM powder works and why it 'punches above its weight'
in terms of value for money and efficacy.
When the Green Lipped Mussel Powder is used in combination with Xtend-Life's Omega 3 / DHA Fish Oil
, the superior anti-inflammatory properties you'll receive will significantly benefit your health and longevity. View Xtend-Life's Green Lipped Mussel Powder
View the Xtend-Life Arthritis Formula - Not Just JointsPS. I have a page on my website devoted to arthritis and arthritis supplements.
It explains which nutrients are required and why. The Xtend-Life arthritis formula (Arthrit-Eze) satisfies all these criteria - it has a more comprehensive formula than any other arthritis formula in the marketplace because it contains all the key nutrients that absolutely must be there and not just some of them which is the problem with most arthritis supplement formulas.

On a more general note in regards your joint condition, I'd like to urge you to take good care of your dietary regime by trying to reduce animal and dairy a little, especially anything heavy, as the natural animal fats can increase inflammation around the synovial joint fluid in susceptible people (i.e. people with joint problems or injuries).
Also increase your pure fluid intake (water and/or vegetable juicing) to 2+ liters per day at least, to help keep rid of any toxins lingering around your joints. Keep the joints moving and exercised, (within your means), but regularly so as not to loose flexibility through non-use.Now, to your general health.
The supplement I recommend to you is called Total Balance.
This is the supplement I use as well as my whole family. If you have read through a lot of my website, especially my supplement comparisons page and my Total Balance review page:Total Balance Review
then you will already have seen all the reasons why this is the best and most effective nutritional health supplement available. It is simply in a class of its own and nobody has been able to refute that to date - all the scientific facts and straightforward formula comparisons are irrefutable.
Of course, nutritional supplements are not cheap- especially the premium grade ones which I am recommending. Its a question of how much value you place on your health as well as you financial situation. These supplements must be used on an ongoing basis in order to ensure you suffer no degenerative disease in old age and avoid being dependent on a host of pharmaceutical drugs in your twilight years.
Certainly your knee problem is degenerative (unless you had a fall / accident which damaged the joint or ligaments inside)- so you must definitely treat it as it will get worse.
If you cannot afford both supplements at a full daily dose then just take a reduced dose according to what you can afford. My mother only takes a half dose of Total Balance every day as she is a pensioner and can't afford the monthly cost of a full daily dose (nor will she allow me to pay for her!)
