What Form Of Cod Liver Oil Is Better To take?

Is it better to take the liquid form of cod liver oil that the pill form? Is one brand of cod liver oil better than another or are they all the same?

Thanks for your question.

Personally we do not recommend using cod liver oil. Cod liver oil, as a general rule of thumb, is one of the most likely contaminated omega 3 sources. This is so because the liver can contain excess vitamin A, which can leach into the oil used. Also, because the liver is a detoxification organ, other contaminants and toxins do have the potential to leach into the oil also.

Now, most manufacturers will say that they have a good processing of ensuring this doesn’t happen, and this may be so. However, even if you take that into consideration, cod liver oil itself has one of the lowest DHA/EPA ratios, and therefore is of far less therapeutic benefit than many other fish oils on the market.

When looking at a good fish oil, ensure you have a high DHA/EPA level, and a good ratio. To get an idea of what this should look like per serving, please take a look at the Xtend-Life Omega 3/DHA supplement ingredient list.

Also look at the fish source, to ensure not only that it is from a pure source, but that it is also harvested in an environmentally friendly manner.
